Ryan Pfluger is an American portrait and editorial photographer based in New York City (although he works in Los Angeles often). His work is at once traditional and innovative, and his process generally involves the use of medium-format film cameras to achieve the detail-rich images that his portfolio is comprised of.
Pfluger, well-known for the dramatic and emotional editorial work he has produced for high-profile magazines and clients, is also an openly gay male whose personal work explores nostalgia and sexuality.
I chose to feature Pfluger's work because he is a master at capturing the emotion and intensity of his subjects -- something so many photographers are either unwilling or unable to grasp.
