Viktoria Sorochinski

Viktoria Sorochinski was born in Ukraine, but now lives and works out of New York City.  She has worked and been exhibited in several countries around the world, including Russia, Italy, and Canada.

She creates intriguing portraits, using staged scenes to create a narrative about the subject.  Her projects Anna & Eve and Daddy are the two I found most relevant to my own work.  Both investigate the complex relationship between parent and child, the first following a mother and child as age opens the child's eyes to the world around her. The second, Daddy, focuses on the relationship between a young father the daughter he is raising by himself. I chose this work for both its concept and content; I really enjoy the way the artist handles this topic and her images are very powerful.
